Nikulin surely saw the Altai nature in a light and joyful way. He reflected its beauty using the methods of decorative painting which is expressed in brighter colors and sophistication of the painting technique.

There is a miracle and a celebration in the lace of water drops, waves and streams combing at stones, in sketches of mountain rivers and waterfalls. The stones at the Korgon river, at the Belokurikha river. The Koomere river. Altai people know all these names. Many of us have probably been there and looked at the rivers running down the stones. But could we notice the variety of colors of the mountainous world?

We are thankful to the painter watching his landscapes of Altai -- Nikulin loved Altai, and his love, expressed in paintings, can even now feed our feelings and imagination. Lots of sun, transparent air, stones, caressed by water compose a bright image of Gornyi Altai. Nikulin saw Altai in a different way than the painter Grigoriy Ivanovich Gurkin.

Andrei Nikulin knew his contemporary well, often visited him in Onos village on a bank of the Katun river, in his studio. Andrei estimated Gurkin's talent but he chose his own way.
